Soft Fonts are enhanced fonts used in FGL based printers to permit the use of styles and font sizes beyond the limited resident FGL fonts. Soft Fonts have a standard format, and can be found both at no-charge and for a fee on the Internet. In addition, there are inexpensive programs that can convert any Windows based TrueType font into the Soft Font format.
Soft Fonts can now be used with all FGL based Practical Automation ITX and ITL series printers. Soft Fonts are loaded into the printer using our “Soft Font Loader” program.
To use Soft Fonts, printers need Ver 2.06b firmware or higher. All printers (new or serviced) shipped from PA since March 18, 2009 have this firmware. Firmware for printers manufactured from late 2006 until March 18, 2009 (Ver 2.0x firmware) can be updated using our free “Firmware Update Tool” found on our web site. In order to update firmware, your printer must have either a parallel or USB interface.
